Dividing Line Collection

Lookbook

This collection is inspired by a quote from Jack Kerouac’s On The Road

“It was my dream that screwed up, the stupid hearthside idea that it would be wonderful to follow one great red line across America instead of trying various roads and routes…I was at the dividing line between the East of my youth and the West of my future.”

As a burgeoning designer, I am in a similar position in my life. My collection is an attempt to capture my own desire for movement and direction, the dividing line of my own design history and the precipice of change this new chapter of my life brings.  I have contextualized various roads and routes by creating lines with textured woven pieces and fabric manipulation in tucks and pleats. My collection bridges the drape of 1950’s silk with the rugged and hand crafted appeal of early 19th Century Pioneer life with leather and hand-woven pieces. I endeavor to create an image of an elegant and confidently self-aware individual, both independent and resolute. My designs are highly focused with color and clean lines—a distinct blending of two very different time periods. I aspire to create modern fashion with an historical appeal—an allusion to two periods of American history that are dichotomous and yet similar—characterized by both rugged individuality and honest, simple American beauty. All photos taken by Mallory Short
